Installation

Download

Download the latest bundle package (pkg_nextinventory_vX.XX.zip) from nextsoftware.dev. The package contains the com_nextinventory component and the plg_system_nextinventorysession plugin as a single upgrade-safe bundle.

Install

  1. Log in to your Joomla administrator panel
  2. Go to System > Install > Extensions
  3. Drag and drop the ZIP file onto the upload area, or click Browse for file and select it
  4. Joomla installs the component and plugin together and displays a success message

Enable the Bundle

The component is available immediately after installation. The session plugin is enabled automatically during install — you only need to verify it is still enabled if you ever disable system plugins for troubleshooting.

  1. Go to Components > Next Inventory to access the main dashboard
  2. To verify the session plugin: open System > Manage > Plugins
  3. Search for System - Next Inventory Session
  4. Confirm the status is Enabled (green check)
  5. Click Save if you had to change anything

Enter Your Download Key

Updates and downloads from nextsoftware.dev require the download key that was emailed to you when you purchased Next Inventory.

  1. Go to System > Update > Update Sites
  2. Find Next Inventory Updates and click its name
  3. Paste your key into the Extra Query field (Joomla labels it Download ID)
  4. Click Save

You only need to do this once. Future updates appear in System > Update > Joomla (and the extension Update page) and download automatically.

Upgrading

A new version installs directly over the old one — no need to uninstall first. All data and settings are preserved during upgrades — items, transactions, warehouses, recipients, roles, custom fields, and notification subscriptions remain intact.

To upgrade:

  1. Download the new version of pkg_nextinventory_vX.XX.zip
  2. Install it the same way as a fresh install (System > Install > Extensions)
  3. Your existing configuration, inventory, and audit trail will remain unchanged
  4. Database schema updates run automatically when the new version includes them

Uninstalling

The component and plugin are installed as one package, so individual pieces cannot be uninstalled separately — you uninstall the full package.

  1. Go to System > Manage > Extensions
  2. Filter type by Package
  3. Search for Next Inventory Package
  4. Select the checkbox next to the package
  5. Click Uninstall in the toolbar

Warning: Uninstalling removes all Next Inventory database tables including items, transactions, warehouses, recipients, roles, custom fields, and the full audit trail. If you want to preserve data, export reports as CSV first under Reports > Export before uninstalling.
