Next Task
Next Task is a task manager for Joomla 4.4, 5 and 6. Everyone on your site gets their own task lists, with subtasks, due dates, stars and repeating tasks, in the administrator, on the site and on a phone, under the Joomla accounts they already have.
Lists can be shared with people or whole user groups, to view or to edit, and team lists belong to the site rather than to one person. Assign a task to anyone who can reach its list, and they get an email and a notification. The All tasks board shows every list side by side, and Starred, Today, Overdue and Assigned to me gather the work from all of them.
Reminders and a daily digest keep people on schedule. Roles decide who may do what, with optional quotas, and an Overview and a Users page show team leads who carries the most work. Next Task installs as one package, keeps its data in your own Joomla database, and can be installed on a phone or computer like an app.

Getting Started
Both. Administrators open Components > Next Task in the back office; everyone else uses the same app on the site through a Next Task menu item. Both talk to the same data, embedded in the page or full screen.
They need a Next Task role. On installation, the Member role goes to Registered and the other top-level groups, and Administrator to the administrators, so everyday use works out of the box. Roles are edited in the app under Configuration > Roles.
Yes. One click in Settings loads sample lists and tasks, and removes them again without touching your own data.
Sharing & Collaboration
Yes. Share a list with people or usergroups to view or to edit, or make it a team list that belongs to the site. Every permission is checked on the server for each request.
The assignee gets an email and a notification, and finds the task under Assigned to me. Assignment opens no list: they reach the task through its list, and on a list shared with them to view they may only tick it off.
Yes. Manage > Transfer moves a list to another person or makes it a team list, optionally keeping the previous owner on it with edit access. When a Joomla user is deleted, their lists are handed over or deleted, as the site chooses.
Yes. Each role can carry quotas: the most lists a person may own and the most open tasks a list may hold. Administrators and Super Users have no limits.
Dates & Recurrence
No: only top-level tasks repeat. When a repeating task creates its next occurrence, its subtasks come along, open again. Subtasks have their own due dates and appear in Today and Overdue.
The task moves to Completed and a new one appears with the next date, exactly once. Reopening it removes the untouched next occurrence again, and when the series ends nothing more is created.
The Joomla site's. Today, overdue and reminder times are counted in the site time zone, on the server and in the app, so everyone sees the same day.
Emails & Notifications
They run through Joomla's Scheduled Tasks. A real cron calling Joomla's Web Cron URL is the most reliable; the Lazy Scheduler also works on busier sites. A reminder is never sent twice for the same due date.
At the time each person chooses (09:00 site time by default). The routine runs hourly and sends each digest once a day.
Each person can switch reminders, the digest, assignment emails and the bell off in their preferences, and the App Manager switches the bell or all reminder emails off for the whole site.
Technical
Joomla 4.4 or newer, Joomla 5 and 6 included, on PHP 8.1 or newer, with MySQL 8 or MariaDB 10.4 or newer. The package installs as one zip and enables its plugins automatically.
Yes. The Web Services plugin exposes REST endpoints under /api/index.php/v1/nexttask/ for lists and tasks, authenticated with Joomla's standard API token, with the same permissions as the app.
Yes. The app is responsive from phone widths up, and on HTTPS sites it can be installed on a phone or a computer like an app, with recently viewed lists readable offline.
Their lists are handed to another user or deleted, as set in Settings > System, and their shares, assignments, preferences and notifications are removed. A privacy removal request always deletes their lists.
